God and his Church
God wants to stress the desire to please him, even where people feel they don’t know exactly what pleases him. They are to cry, ‘Show us what is pleasing to you’. God searches people’s hearts and clears a way for himself.

Individually and corporately we should tell God that we want to seek him, above and beyond the insistence of any of our own preferences, prejudices and plans. It is God alone who fully knows what he wants to do with us. Against the background of our own history we must pray, ‘Lord, what you want to find in us, create in us, because you are our God and we are your people’.
From experiences of my own through the last thirty years and from very many experiences recorded by others I have learned more about listening to God in this mysterious way that comes through impression. Of course we should recognise what purely human elements may be at work. Yet it can be an authentic way in which God communicates....
God our Father,
Your will be done through your Church.
We do not ask it with passive resignation
but in active pursuit of what pleases you.
Risen Jesus,
Do what is in your own heart to do,
Drawing many more to be your disciples.
Come, Holy Spirit.
Show us your fresh touch on inherited things.
Help us beyond the limits of our own resource.
Lord God, your purposes.
Jesus Christ, your passion.
Holy Spirit, your power.
