Teach us to pray
My wife and I prayed with a lady who was troubled with a rash, a nasty and persistent one which had repeatedly defied diagnosis or treatment. We didn’t know and couldn’t promise that God would take it away in answer to prayer. But we suggested that we should at least ask God’s help and guidance....
This is a prayer inspired by Jesus' own teaching and example. It can be used by one person or as a form of shared prayer. It was suggested by reading 'Jesus, Man of Prayer' by Sr. Margaret Magdalen, Hodder and Stoughton 1987.
During our stay at the Iris Ministries centre in the Mozambican capital of Maputo my wife and I, with another visitor from England, spent 24 hours with a pastor in a rural village some distance from the city.
Prayer
God our Father,
Your will be done through your Church.
We do not ask it with passive resignation
but in active pursuit of what pleases you.
Risen Jesus,
Do what is in your own heart to do,
Drawing many more to be your disciples.
Come, Holy Spirit.
Show us your fresh touch on inherited things.
Help us beyond the limits of our own resource.
Lord God, your purposes.
Jesus Christ, your passion.
Holy Spirit, your power.
